What to see in Philadelphia
If your sole purpose in touring Philadelphia is to tour historic sights, you won't be disappointed. Philly is the birthplace of the Constitution and home to America's foremost scientist and statesman, Ben Franklin.  An obvious place to start is Independence Hall where Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and company announced the Declaration of Independence and, eleven years later, the Constitution.  Admission is free of charge, but you'll need to get a timed ticket for entrance.  Keep your options open and pick up tickets at 8:30a from the Independence Visitors Center.  Make a stop by the Liberty Bell afterward and delve into its history and significance. 

Keep the Franklin Institute Science Museum high on the priority list during your Philadelphia stay.  The museum houses the only artificial heart and the world's largest pinball machine.  Take time to play outside at the Barnes Foundation, a well-maintained estate exhibiting artists Van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso, and Renoir as well as manicured arboretum with a greenhouse and pond.  The Philadelphia Zoo attracts thousands of visitors each day and it's easy to see why--with over 1500 animals the first zoo established in the U.S. offers entertaining exhibits for the whole family.

Strap on the walking shoes to tour America's oldest inhabited neighborhood, Elfreth's Alley.  The houses were constructed in 1702 and continue to function today. Tourists can see inside two of the area's homes for a close look at architecture and style.  Take the Constitutional Walking Tour which leads past several of the city's key historic sites.  Tours start at the Independence Visitors Center and take about 75 minutes.
