Some must-sees of the city definitely include a ferry ride out to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  Although you can't climb Lady Liberty, she makes for a fabulous photo shoot.  The museum restoration at Ellis Island is breathtaking as you wander the halls of America's most notorious immigration station.  Near the dock to board the ferry you can see the World Trade Center Memorial, currently under construction. 

Buy a subway map and stick to the tunnels.  A one-way ride will cost only $2 and you can buy a metro pass to get bigger savings.  Avoid taxis at all costs--they are dirty, expensive, and the drivers throw obscenities your way if you don't tip enough.
