I've been using Amazon Prime Membership for three and a half years now. The membership features:
Unlimited two-day shipping on Amazon items sold on their website
An option of overnight shipping for an additional $3.99
No minimum size order required
Membership-sharing for up to four household members
When I worked a full-time office job, I rarely had time to shop in physical stores, much less bargain shop. Amazon.com has below retail prices and great customer service. I even signed up for an Amazon.com credit card and my husband and I put all our expenses on it and paid it off each month just so we'd get the credit vouchers for Amazon.com.
Lately, we've been switching back to the debit card and cash, and I work from home so it's easier for me to shop in stores. With a $79 Amazon Prime Membership price tag, I've been wondering if it's worth it for our family anymore.
In our "get yours first" society, it is rare to find a merchant who takes seriously the act of giving. Charitable donations are usually the first and deepest cuts. When TOMS Shoes opened its doors in May 2006, their goal was to match product purchase and donations--one for one. You buy a pair of shoes, they donate a pair to a child in need. Period. No minimum profit margin or fine print. It is radical, outlandish, exorbitant; and it's the fastest growing shoe company in the U.S.
Founder Blake Mycoskie (oddly enough a season two contestant on The Amazing Race) knows a thing or two about giving more and spending less. With a title like "Chief Shoe Giver" it's no wonder that Mycoskie began with a nonprofit organization. Becoming profitable grew out of establishing a foundation of corporate responsibility. Starting the company out of his apartment, making the first batch of shoes himself, sales soon exploded. Simply put, TOMS Shoes offers a great product with a greater reward.
February 16th and 17th Amazon.com is offering up to 65% off more than 400 kitchen and home items. Choose from products in kitchen, bath, patio, furniture, tableware, small appliances and more. These are some of our favorite picks.
We're excited to report that Bloomingdale's now offers free shipping everyday on orders over $300. Bloomingdale's Card holders will now be able to get free shipping when they spend $150.
This is not a new thing for high-end department stores. Around this time last year Nordstrom began offering free shipping on orders over $200.
We expect more department stores to follow in the footsteps of Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom.
This week Walmart introduced a new feature to it's free shipping with Site to Store that could benefit you this holiday season. Walmart Site to Store orders typically take 7-10 business days to arrive at the store after your order is processed. You then have to pick your order up from your local Walmart. Site to Store Express is a paid membership program that ships your eligible Site to Store order to any Walmart store in the contiguous United States in 3-5 business days plus processing time. There is an annual fee of $29 for membership in Walmart Site to Store Express. If you shop at Walmart.com frequently and use Site to Store then this might be just what you need.
For many, the holidays bring a sense of togetherness with family, home-cooked food, and presents under the tree. But for others without family, this time of year is lonely. Make this Christmas a special one for people in need with charitable donations given using free shipping discounts!
But where do we begin to look for ways to give? Many online merchants offer a number of ways to donate this season.
The Gap has just come out with a new feature to online shopping that will help set them apart from their competition. You can now shop at the Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Piperlime and pay one flat shipping rate of $7.
Previously, you'd have to pay individual shipping charges for purchases made at each site. Now you can fill your shopping cart with items from all four stores and pay one low shipping rate. Orders containing just Piperlime items will still ship for free since Piperlime offers free shipping and free returns.
Unfortunately the new change also brought in a higher flat rate shipping price. The Gap use to have flat rate shipping of $6 and Old Navy had a flat rate of $5. If you only want to shop at these stores, you will have to pay more for shipping.
Department store, Nordstrom is now offering everyday free shipping on orders over $200, and $8 shipping on orders under $200.
Previously, Nordstrom was offering $5 shipping on all orders.
This is a smart move for the company. With gas prices getting higher and higher every week, Nordstrom probably couldn't afford to keep offering such low shipping prices on smaller orders.
Some shoppers will probably purchase more to reach the $200 mark to get Nordstrom free shipping.
Nordstrom still offers free shipping on gift cards, jewelry over $1500 and Nordstrom Fashion Rewards card holders at Level 2 or higher get free shipping on all orders.

The Tribunal de Grande Instance in Versaille ruled in December that Amazon is violating the 1981 Lang Law with it's super-saver free shipping. The Lang Law forbids booksellers from discounting books by more than 5% of the list price. Amazon free shipping exceeds the 5% discount.
The tribunal gave Amazon 10 days to stop offering free shipping on books or else face a daily fine of €1000. Amazon was also ordered to pay €100,000 to the French Booksellers' Union to cover legal fees and any losses in book sales.
Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon sent out an email to French Amazon customers stating that, "France would be the only country in the world where the free delivery practiced by Amazon would be declared illegal." He then asked customers to sign an online petition, which 120,000 people already have.
The Tribunal will review the case in 30 days, at which point it can reduce or increase the fine. Amazon plans to fight the ruling.
The theme-park capital of the world draws nearly 50 million visitors each year. Children young and old flock to Central Florida’s warm year-round temps to experience fantasy at its finest.
Dearest frugalites, I have a deep apology to extend to you. In the past I've used the terms cheap and frugal interchangeably; yet the longer I think about what those two words mean...
I've lived in eight different apartment communities thus far with experiences ranging from pleasant to miserable. If you have chosen to reside in an apartment (er, togetherment) for financial reasons or...
I cannot tell a lie. Sometimes I feel cramped in my 1,100 square foot, two-bedroom place with a work-from-home hubby, rambunctious 10-month-old, and annoying cat.
This week Go Frugal is honored to host the latest (187th!) edition of the Festival of Frugality. We were overwhelmed by the number of great money-saving ideas sent in, so let’s get right to it!
It's fun to watch people in public these days. The instant hand sanitizer folks have totally capitalized on public fear of the hiney flu and are raking it in big time.
Cool weather inevitably brings a sense of mourning to our loss of fresh (and cheap) berries and melons. What's left are gourds, squash, and virtually nothing sweet. Fear not, produce lover.
