The 10 Best Places to Look for Coupons

Places to Find Coupons

One of the easiest ways to save money and live a more frugal lifestyle is to use coupons. To find the best deal on the things you buy, you'll need to know where to look for coupons. Here is a list of the ten best places to find coupons.

1. Advertiser flyer
Most large stores in your area will have a flyer with coupons that can be found in the Sunday newspaper. It can be worth the price of a subscription for just the weekend newspapers.

2. Back of the receipt
Many grocery stores will have coupons for products in their store printed on the back of the receipt. Usually I hate getting receipts as long as a roll of toilet paper, except for when they have coupons on the back.

3. Coupon Websites
There are literally hundreds if not thousands of coupon websites on the internet that can help you save money on anything from clothing to electronics to ink cartridges. Most of the coupons found online are for purchases made at a merchants website. Many manufacturers will also post coupons on their websites for discounts on their products.

4. Product Packaging
You can often find manufacturers coupons for discounts off your next purchase on the outside of the packaging or inside the box. This is how the manufacturer tries to keep us buying their products.

Although Crocs.com rarely offers coupon codes they do offer free shipping on orders over $75.

Instead of buying Crocs at Crocs.com we suggested to Carol that she shop at a website like Shoes.com that has a great selection of Crocs and offers free shipping and free returns on all orders.

Shoes.com regularly offers coupon codes for as much as 20% off the total order price.

The History of Coupons

Companies have been using coupons to market their products to the masses for more than a 110 years.

In 1894, Atlanta businessman and co-owner of Coca-Cola Asa Candler used handwritten tickets for a free glass of Coca-Cola to help market his new soft drink. Within one decade Coca-Cola was in every state and within two decades one in every nine Americans had received a free Coca-Cola soft drink.

One year later, grocer C.W. Post began using coupons to help sell groceries. His coupon gave people a one cent discount on his new breakfast cereal, Grape Nuts.

During the dirty thirties clipping coupons had become necessary for many American families who struggled to afford groceries.

By the 1940s chain supermarkets, which were popping up all over the country, continued the tradition of using coupons that the smaller neighborhood grocery stores had developed.
