Art on a Budget: One Dollar Décor

Cheap Art

Think you have to be rich to have an art collection?
Think again! One of my favorite Fab & Frugal finds is something I call “One Dollar Décor.” A while back, I was in a used bookstore and found some old illustrations in the $1 bin that I loved. I bought them, and then promptly tacked them up to my corkboard, where they languished for years next to my kids’ school schedules and grocery lists.

It finally occurred to me that with a little effort – and even less cash - I could make my $1 art look like $1 million. I matted and framed the pictures and, suddenly, my bargain-bin finds looked like antique treasures!

Stores like Aaron Brothers have a great selection of Do-It-Yourself mattes and frames that make any interesting, old clipping or picture into a work of art you’ll be proud to display!

I decided to look around the house to see what other artistic treasures I'd been ignoring, and was delighted to find some antique postcards I had bought for $0.25 each! These gems had been wasting away in an old shoebox full of letters, but will now be displayed as proudly as if they were Picassos.

So don’t be bummed out you can’t afford that great piece in the window of the chic art gallery. Be Fabulous & Frugal and frame your own finds!
